Why Canada in 2026
Canada has committed to welcoming over 400,000 immigrants per year through 2026. The Express Entry system is one of the world's most transparent and merit-based immigration pathways - and you do not necessarily need a job offer to qualify.
The Three Express Entry Streams
1. Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
The most accessible stream for international applicants. Requirements: at least 1 year of skilled work experience, English/French language proficiency (IELTS/CELPIP), educational credentials assessed by WES or similar. No Canadian work experience required.
2. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
For those who have already worked in Canada (student visa, work permit, etc.). Minimum 1 year of Canadian work experience in the past 3 years.
3. Federal Skilled Trades (FST)
For electricians, plumbers, welders, carpenters, and other tradespeople. Canada has a massive shortage of skilled trades workers - these applicants often receive fast-track invitations.
Understanding CRS Score
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) assigns you a score out of 1,200. Recent draw cutoffs have ranged from 481 to 550. Factors that boost your score: younger age (maximum points at 20-29), higher language scores (CLB 9+ in all four abilities), Canadian education, provincial nomination (+600 points instantly).
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) - The Secret Weapon
Every province runs its own nomination program. A Provincial Nomination adds 600 CRS points, virtually guaranteeing an ITA (Invitation to Apply). Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta are among the most active. Many provinces target tech workers, healthcare professionals, and skilled trades.
