About This Role
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION, YOU MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A. A degree that included fifteen (15) semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least six (6) semester hours were in statistics), and nine (9) additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements will given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. ~OR~ B. Combination of education and experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. ~AND~ IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT, THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED: TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-12 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Statistician (Health)? Typically, we would find this experience in responsibilities that required performing a full range of professional statistical work. Specialized experience includes demonstrated work experience performing statistician work for health care research studies; broad knowledge and skill using complex statistical computer software and program development to analyze and manipulate data from a wide range of research studies; participating in the preparation of written reports and presentations that summarize the analysis of data; and assisting with preparation and dissemination of statistical results. NOTE: Resume must clearly demonstrate experience to be creditable. We will not make assumptions regarding experience. TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-13 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal Service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Statistician (Health)? Typically, we would find this experience in responsibilities that required performing a full range of professional statistical work. Specialized experience includes working in biostatistics, providing guidance and direction in research study design, statistical methodology for sample size estimation and data analysis, participating in protocol changes, developing operations manual and case report forms and overseeing study development and implementation. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. However, the work does not require the ability to travel. Travel can occasionally be frequent depending on studies and timing of events. Effective oral and written communication are essential to present (a) protocols for scientific review (b) study procedures and updates at study related meetings, (c) scientific results, (E) facilitate and lead study team meetings and (f) participate in CSP management, general staff meetings, and quality management meetings and quality audits. These positions are located at the West Haven Cooperative Studies Program Coordinating Center (CSPCC) at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, CT.
