About This Role

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit Promotion and Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA) Status applicants must provide an SF50 Notice of Personnel Action that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF50 must include the position, title, series, grade, step, tenure, type of service (Competitive or Excepted) and career status (career or career-conditional). No award SF50 will be accepted as proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. One year at the GS-12 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 grade level. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized Experience GS-13: Applicant must demonstrate one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Plan broad investigative efforts with emphasis on complex, long term investigations such as Medicare and/or disability fraud investigations within an assigned area; Develop new techniques and procedures to advance the effectiveness of the agency's investigative program; Obtain and analyze information from investigative reports, financial statements, computer printouts and records of business transactions; Obtain evidence in preparation of search warrants and conduct searches; and Provide training in advanced techniques to other investigators. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order to perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of this position are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, you must possess emotional and mental stability. As a condition of employment, Criminal Investigators are subject to periodic medical suitability and must be able to meet the medical requirements for the position. The Inspector General (IG) of the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) leads an independent and objective organization responsible for audit, investigation, and other services related to programs and operations of the RRB. The IG provides leadership and coordination and recommends policies for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of programs and operations, as well as to prevent and detect fraud and abuse in such programs.
