Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. This position has a basic requirement that you must meet in addition to the specialized experience required below. Basic Requirement: Education: An undergraduate or graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. -OR- Experience: In or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duets of the position. Examples of qualifying experience include: Managing safety or occupational health program elements, developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management, applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements, developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards, developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses, analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards, designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards, inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards, training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects, work in occupational fields such as industrial hygiene, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse. In addition to the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the one year of Specialized Experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience in conducting safety and occupational health surveys at a military installation, recommending measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and conditions which may cause mishaps; preparing supplemental written safety procedures for application to local organizational components. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Customer Service Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Learning Reading Comprehension Reasoning Self-Management Stress Tolerance Teamwork Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). About the Position: Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for 836th Battalion. As Manager you will plans, organizes, administers and evaluates elements of the safety and occupational health program. The program encompasses subordinate terminals/out-ports involving diverse facilities, transportation, and industrial responsibilities.
