About This Role

A qualified candidate must possess: Minimum two years working experience that demonstrates knowledge in two areas (Carpentry, Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical or Painting). Knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position. Must have skill in the safe use of a variety of basic hand tools, portable power tools and use of small construction equipment (scaffolding, tractors, trucks, etc.). Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, tools, mechanical and electrified equipment, commonly used chemicals and basic safe work practices. Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly and effectively to changing program needs and regulations. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written skills to be able to evaluate and provide reports on work in progress. Factor 2. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Maintenance Coordinator and receives general oversight and assistance for new or unusual situations from the Maintenance Leader. Work is reviewed in terms of quality, efficiency and adherence to established standards and procedures. Work is performed independently and is generally repetitive in nature. Guidance and assistance are available for unusual problems or unprecedented situations . Factor 3. GUIDELINES Incumbent is expected to perform daily work on own initiative and carryout assignments in accordance with established regulations. Situations involving unfamiliar problems not covered by instructions are referred to the Leader or Supervisor for resolution. Typically, the employee uses routine instructions and work methods that are common to the trade and may be general in nature. Where available, the incumbent will rely on blueprints, manufacturer's instructions, manuals and maintenance specifications. Factor 4. COMPLEXITY Due to the need to accomplish work across two or more trades, the work consists of a variety of duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods. Independent discretion is needed to determine how best to approach the work and which methods to apply. Factor 5. SCOPE AND EFFECT The purpose of the work is to provide maintenance services. The work directly contributes to the military members, retirees, civilians, and family member's quality of life, mission readiness, and contributes to job satisfaction and retention of valuable members. Factor 6. CONTACTS Contracts include regional staff, all department heads, and lodging staff. Some contact with contractors, vendors, and representatives of private industry. Factor 7. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS Contacts are made to coordinate and/or obtain information relating to the maintenance operation. Factor 8. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The incumbent is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling and climbing. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds (100 pounds assisted) is required. Must be able to climb/descend stairs and ladders, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions. Factor 9. WORKING ENVIRONMENT The work involves normal risks or discomforts associated with plan operations, facility management, and/or mechanical systems. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to extreme weather or temperature conditions. Occasional exposure to dusty or dirty conditions exists when visiting and facilities undergoing repair, maintenance or renovation. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided. This position is located in the Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, Fleet and Family Readiness Support Services Office, Facilities department. The purpose of this position is to assist with facilities maintenance work. The incumbent performs intermediate level tasks and works more independently as training and experience increase.
