About This Role

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the Ability to Lead or Supervise common Maintenance Mechanic duties, such as tests circuits and equipment by use of a variety of diagnostic tools and equipment such as ohmmeters, ammeters, voltmeters, Wiggins, etc. Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assemble, and/or install conduit. Inserts, splices, and connects wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, or power source. Documents operating readings as necessary or required; checks for leaks and proper operation of equipment, or other malfunctions. Replaces or repairs component parts in compressors; replaces or repairs coils or refrigerant lines; cleans unit of any dirt, grease or moisture. Determines parts and equipment for repair and modification of systems. Locates or modifies parts to replace obsolete parts. Inspects, adjusts, replaces or repairs thermostats; digi-stats; sensors switches; fuel cut off and feed systems; burners; flame safeguard controls; bearings; drive gears; springs; gaskets, fans and couplings; or damaged parts. Services systems by replacing filters, cleaning strainers, ignition electrodes, pumps and fans, or adjusting dampers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Stoops, stretches, bends, kneels for long periods of time and works in tiring, awkward, and uncomfortable positions. Equipment worked on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds and less frequently, items that weigh over 75 pounds. Weight handling equipment is available when handling large units, up to 6000 lb. Ladders, scaffolds and platforms may be used when working on large systems or roofs. Must be able to distinguish basic or shades of colors to prevent risk of electrical shock when wiring equipment. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside under all weather conditions. Subject to sudden temperature changes and extreme cold during repairs to cold storage plant and large walk-in refrigerator equipment. Exposed to possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders or scaffolds. Requires wearing of protective safety equipment (respirators, shoes, glasses, ear protection). Possibility of burns and/or electrocution when working on electrical equipment (24 to 460 volts). May be called upon to perform asbestos abatement, encapsulation and repair. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.
