About This Role
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the following: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Lead Supply Technician position. Specialized experience includes: Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility. The best qualified candidate has at least one year of experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of a Lead Supply Technician. This experience includes performing supply support tasks such as receiving, storing, issuing, replenishing, and maintaining accountability of supplies. The candidate maintains accurate stock levels, conducts routine physical inventories, and verifies shipment accuracy through inspections, documentation review, and resolving discrepancies. They ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of supplies, monitor inventory levels, and use automated systems to enter, update, and manage supply data. The candidate also serves in a lead role by providing guidance to lower-graded staff, coordinating daily workflow, and resolving routine supply issues. They ensure work is completed according to established procedures, safety standards, and inventory control regulations. The candidate can respond to customer supply requests, manage records effectively, prepare issue, turn-in, and receipt documentation, and maintain accountability for all assigned items. A well-qualified candidate also demonstrates the ability to monitor workload distribution, communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, identify process issues, and recommend improvements. They ensure compliance with supply policies, provide strong customer support, troubleshoot supply problems, and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, frequent bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Regularly pushes loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With the assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment, will move heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. A portion of time is also spent operating ADP Equipment such as bar code scanners, computers and printers. Works throughout the medical center which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty and poorly lighted. Duties will subject the incumbent to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury. Will stock supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouse, and nursing areas. Will be expected to maintain a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infections pollutants while transitioning between environments. This position serves as the Lead Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Lead Supply Technician, you will ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material.
