About This Role

To qualify for the position of Interior Designer, at GS-1008-12/13, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF-50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). Basic Requirement A. Education: Undergraduate or graduate education with a major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts or a copy of your certification) OR B. Experience: Specialized experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: (1) Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; (2) Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; (3) Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; (4) Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; OR (5) Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. For the GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: developing, and/or managing interior design project plans, budgets, and schedules; AND resolve interior design problems. For the GS-13: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: assisting with analyzing the design, layout and construction or renovation of buildings; prepares statement of work or other binding documentation and/or performs preservation, restoration, and/or rehabilitation pertaining to interior design. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time-in-grade, by the 05/27/2026 of this announcement. The Facilities and Administrative Services Staff (FASS) provides dedicated facilities management, logistics management, and administrative support service for the Offices, Boards and Divisions of the Department of Justice; and responsible for policy oversight and programs management for the following areas: Real Property asset management, Department Rent Management System, Environmental Program, Energy Management Program, Occupational Health & Safety Program, and Workers Compensation Program.
