About This Role
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5800 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Maintenance Group.. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-5803 HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led. 4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led. 5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees. 6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. Ability to inspect all vehicle components to determine serviceability and make a determination what level of repair is required to correct the deficiency. Physical Effort: The work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching and crouching. The employee may have to work in cramped or awkward positions. The employee will perform strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. The employee will frequently have to lift objects up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and often exert similar amounts of force to lift or move heavy items with the assistance of other workers or tools such as jacks, hoists and cranes. The employee will sometimes be required to work from ladders or platforms of varying heights. Working Conditions: The employee will work both inside and outside as needed, indoor work is subject to drafts, temperature changes and loud noises. Outside work is subject to bad weather, mud, snow, wet areas and ice. Both forms of work are exposed to irritants such as dust, grease, heat and fumes. Vehicle parts may be dirty, oily, or greasy. The work may subject the employee to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shocks, and injuries from falls while repairing, positioning or moving equipment. The employee will follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, hard-toed shoes, gloves, respirators and protective clothing. Some of these protective items may be uncomfortable to wear and require being warn for long periods. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.
