About This Role

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0802, Engineering Technician Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-03, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is described as technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. OR EDUCATION: Applicant must have two full years of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed qualifying education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Specialized experience directly related to the work of the position may be used to meet the requirements of this position. Education in excess of one full year of graduate education with a major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology may be used to qualify applicants for the NJ-04 level. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Extensive knowledge of dimensional measurement technology, equipment, techniques and software. 2. General and practical knowledge of engineering concepts, methods, principles, practices and techniques; familiarity with engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, NDI, etc.). 3. Can solve basic shop math problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of fractions and decimals, squares and square roots. 4. Extensive Professional knowledge of blueprints, drawings, 3D Models and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Specifications ranging from the 1950's too current. 5. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures. 6. Skilled in project management techniques, principles and practices. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
