About This Role

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions. Click here This is a developmental position; this position may be filled at the GS-09 Target GS-11 grade level, or this position may be filled at the Fully Qualified GS-11 level based on the qualification of the candidate. The individual selected for the GS-09 Target GS-11 position may be promoted to the target level without further competition upon meeting any legal and regulatory requirements. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying: knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics; knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance; and knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems related to, but less than, a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering. Electronics technicians may have gained experience assisting in work situations including Maintenance, Installation, Fabrication, Testing and Evaluation/Research and Development, Sustainment, Troubleshooting. Click here SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-09: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the principles, concepts, and theories of the classified title, and the standard practices, methods, and techniques of the occupation sufficient to perform difficult, but well-precedented assignments; knowledge of analysis, evaluation, fact-finding, and investigative techniques in order to gather data, identify significant factors, and recommend a solution from a number of possible alternatives; knowledge of the occupation to perform studies and prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate factual and procedural information clearly. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-10: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of computer hardware, software and programming methods used in environmental control systems; knowledge and skill in the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and calibration of electronically controlled industrial systems, components, and accessories, including DDC control systems and pneumatic controls; knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits to power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, similar device, and of the principles and trade practices of heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems and equipment; knowledge of electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics to understand the construction and operation of the industrial controls, troubleshoot malfunctions and understanding of simple logic diagrams to follow the signal and determine appropriate voltage conditions. Knowledge of the principles and trade practices of heating, air condition and ventilation systems and equipment and ability to modify systems and adapt equipment or software to solve a variety of problems and maintain a variety of controls. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of computer hardware, software and programming methods used in environmental control systems. Knowledge and skill in the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and calibration of electronically controlled industrial systems, components, and accessories, including DDC control systems and pneumatic controls. Knowledge and ability applicable to a wide range of HVAC, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems. Ability to modify systems and adapt equipment or software to solve a variety of problems and to maintain a variety of controls. Knowledge of base utility system requirements (i.e., HVAC) to revise computer controlled operating schedules (i.e., change start/stop program, set-point adjustments due to changed conditions) utilizing system control terms for console commands to correct, modify, and adjust program operations based on utility system needs/requirements. Knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits to power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, similar devices, and of the principles and trade practices of heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems and equipment. Knowledge of electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics to understand the construction and operation of the industrial controls, troubleshoot malfunctions and understanding of simple logic diagrams to follow the signal and determine appropriate voltage conditions. Knowledge of the principles and trade practices of heating, air condition and ventilation systems and equipment and ability to modify systems and adapt equipment or software to solve a variety of problems and maintain a variety of controls. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-10 level. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. CON'T IN EDUCTION The primary purpose is Under the guidance of a higher graded employee to serve in a developmental capacity of an Electronics Technician at the GS-09 level. The incumbent is required to complete developmental assignments and training outlined in an established training plan and gain specific skills and knowledge as needed to move to the target grade of Electronics Technician, GS-0856-11; Incumbent must meet all regulatory training requirements prior to promotion to the target grade.
